Day Training
Think of this as your dog’s work day. Your dog will spend the day learning with one-on-one focused attention. This type of training program is ideal for those who want to maximize their dog’s professional training time while balancing the demands of a busy life.
Your involvement in the training process is even more important than what your dog learns! Included in the day training programs is a 60-75 minute guided owner session every 2nd day. Handouts and video links will be provided to help you with your learning. You will have one hour in-person follow-up session (included in price) around a week after your program to review concepts and address struggles, and you will receive support throughout your training journey. One on one sessions can always be added.
This is the most time-effective and cost-effective way to introduce concepts to your dog and build reliability with what they’ve learned.
*Dog must be crate trained before starting a day training package.
*There is a 2-day minimum for day training programs. This is a same-day drop-off & pick-up format.
One-on-One Training
In this 45-minute to 1-hour session, Nahla-Stay will introduce your dog to the same concepts as in day training, but now you get to take the leash and get in the repetitions necessary to build reliability of commands. Training is individualized, ensuring you will not feel rushed, nor will you feel stuck on a particular skill, as each session will be tailored to your and your dog's needs. Nahla-Stay will be there with professional guidance to support your practice and progress in your own environment.
Training will be fun, not tedious!
Handouts and video links will be provided to help you with your learning. Once foundational skills are taught, additional one-on-one sessions can address any further training needs or wants you have in your journey with your dog. Day training can be added at any time.
Foundational Skills
With either day training or one-on-one training, Nahla-Stay introduces a foundational program appropriate to your dog's stage of development. This is key to establishing a relationship with your dog, and provides you both with tools to be successful and happy in daily life, whatever it may bring.
(Amount of time to learn each concept is dependent upon your dog’s speed of learning as well as training carryover outside of sessions.)
Foundational skills include:
Leash pressure
Connection & relationship
Polite walking
Place/zen zone
Boundaries & communication
Engagement games

About Katie
Hi! I’m Katie Henneman, the owner & trainer behind Nahla-Stay. I became interested in dog training when the excitement of having my first dog turned into a stressful and overwhelming situation due to her challenging behaviors. I didn't expect to have a dog that got us kicked out of our first obedience class, that barked and lunged at people and other dogs, a dog I felt I needed to walk at 5 am to avoid everyone, a dog that scared people.
With those challenges came opportunity for learning and growth, and a truly fulfilling relationship with that difficult dog. That dog's name was Nahla.
My goal is to help you build the relationship and life you want with your dog. I’m also an Occupational Therapist, which gives me a unique perspective in adapting training techniques to help you be successful working with your dog, no matter your physical abilities.

No, right now I do not have the space to do board and trains, however, I have relationships with multiple area dog trainers and am happy to refer you. We are hoping to be able to offer a board and train option in the future.

Nahla-Stay uses balanced training methods, meaning we provide clear "Yes-do this" and "No-don't do that" instructions for the dog with a focus on positive reinforcement. We know everyone learns differently, people and dogs included, and cater to all learning styles (hearing, seeing, doing, and a combo of these). Together, we find what is motivating for your dog and use that to guide behavior change and learning.

One-on-one lessons are $50 and are typically 45 minutes to an hour. Day training is $150/day with the minimum two day program at $300. You will notice positive changes in your dog's behavior and interactions with you through the training process. You may even see your dog open up and show a different side of their personality as they learn what is expected of them and they build their confidence in navigating the world.
-
There is not a hard and fast rule for this. It is dependent upon your dog, your goals, and your lifestyle, though our aim through training with Nahla-Stay is to teach you methods that will fit into your daily routine. Once you learn the 'how', you'll be able to incorporate training into every moment of your day without having to 'set aside' time. We all know that sometimes one extra thing to do can feel overwhelming. Rest assured that time spent on training will provide you with many rewards throughout your dog's life.
-
Nahla-Stay will provide you and your dog a variety of tools to help you and your dog learn techniques and carry them over at home. That being said, the progress you make is primarily up to you. Progress is dependent upon the personality of your dog, what your current relationship is with your dog, how ingrained certain behaviors are for both you and your dog, and how much time and effort you put into the process outside of the time spent with your dog trainer. Nahla-Stay is here to provide a supportive environment to facilitate the progress you want to make.

Reviews from Happy Clients:
“My experience with Katie from Nahla Stay Dog Training was so so helpful! Katie worked with me and my 9 month old lab puppy over a few home sessions and I learned many new ideas to help with making walking and greetings much better! My dog is now 1 yr and 5 months and I still use several of those techniques but she's also just so much better behaved. Good training techniques are the key to happiness with high energy pups!”

“Katie is incredibly passionate about dogs and dedicated to training them in a way that ensures they are both well-behaved and happy. She also has a deep understanding of people and provides realistic, practical recommendations that make training achievable. Thanks to her guidance, my small dog is not only well-trained but also receives countless compliments on his behavior. I owe it all to Katie! 🐶 🩵 I highly recommend Katie for any of your dog training needs!”
— Shannon Wehrman
“Katie was so knowledgeable on how to help me train my dog in wearing a muzzle so he could go to the Vet with less anxiety and safely be examined. She taught me how to train him step by step to slowly progress him to tolerate wearing the muzzle. She even made a video for me to watch which was very helpful. My dog started out fearful of the vets muzzle and with Katie's training, he progressed to wearing his own muzzle around the house, on a walk, on a car ride to the park, around the park and the greatest accomplishment, to the Vet with 100% success!! I was so thankful for Katie's ideas and recommendations and would highly recommend her to anyone needing to train their dog!!!”
